Enjoy! – Morgan
Celebrities who do their part for animal rescue
Just like us, plenty of celebrities open their hearts to adopted pups, too. In addition to adopting their furry friends, many celebrities also donate money to shelters, raise awareness about the importance of adopting pets and support animal rescue organizations. Check out some of the biggest adopters, charity supporters and all-around friends to rescue animals.
Katherine Heigl
Actress Katherine Heigl and her mother Nancy operate the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation in memory of Katherine’s brother Jason. Within this foundation, they operate The Heigl Hounds Of Hope, a rescue organization for dogs in high-kill shelters in Los Angeles. Katherine works to raise awareness of inhumane animal treatment, helps find new loving homes for animals and donates to animal shelters. In addition to all the work she does for animals, Katherine adopts many dogs herself – currently she has seven rescued pups and three recused cats – and calls herself the Mad Dog Lady.
Sandra Bullock
Actress Sandra Bullock has opened her home to many special-needs shelter dogs. Over the years, she’s adopted a three-legged Chihuahua mix named Poppy, a two-legged Chihuahua mix named Ruby and a one-eyed Chihuahua named BeBe. Sandra also helps to find new homes for dogs if she can’t take them in herself.
Pauley Perrette
Pauley Perrette, who you likely recognize as playing the loveable and unique forensics expert Abby Sciuto on CBS’ NCIS, spends her free time rescuing and fostering dogs (though she tends to adopt her fosters!). She loves Chihuahuas and opens her home to a couple of them at a time, and even loves the ones who aren’t perfect. Pauley also supports charitable animal rescue organizations. Inspired by her real life love of animals, Pauley’s character Abby is also a friend to dogs – she fights to prove the innocence of a German Shepherd and makes sure he gets a loving home with McGee, her friend and an NCIS agent. Catch new episodes of NCIS on CBS, and watch Abby display her love of dogs (and people) on NCIS reruns on cable.tv channels including USA and Cloo, too.
JK Rowling
Back in 2007, Harry Potter author JK Rowling adopted a greyhound named Sapphire, and topped off the adoption with an extra donation to the Greyhound Rescue Fife.
Trent Reznor
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor is another fan of greyhounds. He has adopted several of the rescued racers himself and has raised money for greyhound rescues by auctioning Nine Inch Nails memorabilia.
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
Couple Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield adopted a two-year-old golden retriever from an animal shelter in Los Angeles together last year. The two originally fostered the pup, but like Pauley Perrette, they couldn’t say goodbye to Ren and adopted her instead.
Selma Blair
Actress Selma Blair has been known to volunteer at pet shelters and spends her time walking dogs at the Lange Foundation in Los Angeles. She also adopted her late one-eyed Jack Russell Terrier mix, Wink, at the Lange Foundation, too.
Josh Hutcherson
Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson made headlines in April of 2012 when he adopted a 3-month-old pitbull puppy. They were lucky to find each other – Driver needed surgery on a broken leg and Josh was looking for a rescue dog, specifically a pitbull, and that’s exactly what he got. Whether they simply adopt dogs from shelters or start their own foundations to help dogs find loving homes, it’s nice to see celebrities raising awareness and showing love to rescue animals.
